Standing Against Hate in Eglinton–Lawrence | MPP Michelle Cooper Member’s Statement

I stood in the House today to deliver my Member’s Statement, reflecting on the past several months in Eglinton–Lawrence — a time spent connecting with local businesses, community organizations, and places of worship that make our riding so vibrant and diverse.

While there have been many meaningful and uplifting moments, I also addressed a serious concern I continue to hear from residents: the rise in antisemitism and hate in our communities. The recent incident at Shaarei Shomayim synagogue is deeply troubling and a reminder that we must remain vigilant in protecting one another.

No one should feel unsafe because of their faith, identity, or background. We must stand together to uphold the values of respect, inclusion, and safety for everyone in Eglinton–Lawrence and across Ontario.
